What should go here fits so nicely in my next entry. Check it out in a few...
Wednesday spending total: $4.00 (Betsy Ross House admission and an iced tea)

I worked at home for most of the morning and afternoon; I was rather productive for a change. I went to the office briefly before heading out for the Fifth Annual Summer Intern Event sponsored by the Partnership for Public Service.
The shindig was held at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum:
I couldn't help but think of my bestest friend Johhhn Bear. He REALLY likes airplanes.
Steny Hoyer gave the keynote address and stuck around for a panel discussion with Cokie Roberts. I didn't get to ask my question:
William Allen White once said that "If our colleges and universities do not breed men who riot, who rebel, who attack life with all the youthful vision and vigor, then there is something wrong with our colleges. The more riots that come on college campuses, the better world for tomorrow." My parents protested the Vietnam War, but the best that my generation can do is get angry about changes made to Facebook. What can we do to make our peers passionate about international affairs and engage them in changing the world, sometimes through peaceful dissent?
The zoom on my camera was acting up, otherwise I would have gotten a better picture of Steny:
The event itself was SUPER crowded. I had intended to stick around for the Federal Job Fair and free IMAX showings but wandered home instead.
Thursday spending total: $0.00 (YAY!!!)
Friday, July 13
FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH!!! Luckily I don't believe in superstition THAT much.
The WISE gang heard a speaker from the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the AM, and I hung around work until late in the evening.
I then met up with Jason and Chris for the Milton A. Barlow Center Speaker Series featuring Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. I met Harry a year ago at a Sherrod Brown rally, so this wasn't exactly earth-shattering for me. Still, I can't say that I ever imagined that I would hear such a powerful figure talk about -- jock straps!
Fun and frivolity ensued at Guthridge 409 upon my rearrival:
Friday spending total: $28.00 (Philly bus ticket)
